All the hype is over from the 2012 London Olympics, millions watched the closing ceremony that ended a fantastic worldwide sporting event. The 2012 Paralympics Games are set to start in the next few days and are sure to be a success. Athletes were welcomed to their homeland countries with pride, many with new world records and those all important shiny medals. Celebrations are still going on for many athletes in their home towns across the UK.

Having watched many events during the Olympics, usually sat on the sofa munching away on some unhealthy snack made me feel a bit of a frump!! Seeing all those fit athletic bodies with toned abs, and so many of the female athletes looking absolute beauties more apt the catwalk!

The athletes as we all know push themselves to the limit for their sporting event and spend many many hours training and preparing their bodies for a competition as huge as the Olympics.

Just how many people who watched the Olympics have been inspired to start keeping fit, and conforming to a healthier diet in order to change their body shape & appearance? Seeing those washboard tummies, pert bottoms, toned arms & legs and knowing the amount of hard work & effort that goes into getting a body like that makes you wish you could get a bit of a head start, a kind of helping hand to a gorgeous figure like many of the athletes we watched with admiration & envy. I read an article stating that during the Olympic games the number of enquires for liposuction & tummy tucks increased, if true, there are certainly others that had that sense of overwhelming guilt about their body shape and are investigating a quicker fix rather than enduring months of rigorous exercise to gain  the perfect figure. My unhealthy snacks were quickly disposed of and swapped for a healthier snack, well you have to start somewhere, it eased the guilt slightly!

Busy lifestyles often prevent us maintaining a fitness regime, it’s usually the first thing put on hold when life gets hectic with work, children or both, for the athletes it’s their career & they dedicate hours on a weekly basis training & keeping fit, something that most of us would be unable to adhere  to when juggling work & family. We’d all love to look like an athlete but in reality how many people can stick to such a regime in every day life?
